On 25 August 2022, the EBU and BBC confirmed that the United Kingdom as a whole would participate in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest for the first time since 2005, and that the BBC would broadcast the 2022 Contest live on CBBC, BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
The 20th Junior Eurovision Song Contest took place in Yerevan, Armenia, on Sunday 11 December 2022.
It was the first time the BBC had taken part in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, as previous participations were organised by ITV, although Wales participated via Sianel Pedwar Cymru (S4C); the Welsh language broadcaster in 2018 and 2019.
The process to select the performer and song was led by CBBC alongside BBC Studios' entertainment and music division. On 3 November 2022, the BBC announced that 13-year-old Freya Skye would represent the United Kingdom at the 2022 Junior Eurovision Song Contest with the song Lose My Head written by Jack Hawitt, Amber Van Day and Deepend.
