In 2014, the BBC again opted for an internal selection process that did not involve any public participation.

On 3rd March 2014 it announced that singer-songwriter Molly Smitten-Downes had been chosen to represent the United Kingdom in the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest with her own composition Children Of The Universe.

The song was presented during The UK Launch on the BBC's Red Button service, details of which are provided below.

At the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen, Denmark on Saturday 10th May 2014, Children of the Universe finished in 17th place with 40 points.

Graham Norton provided the commentary for BBC One Television. Ken Bruce provided the commentary for BBC Radio 2.

Scott Mills and Laura Whitmore provided the commentary for BBC Three Television for the semi-finals held on Tuesday 6th May 2014 and Thursday 8th May 2014. Ana Matronic provided commentary on the second semi-final on BBC Radio 2 Eurovision, a temporary DAB "pop up" station.
