The BBC decided against entering the 1958 Eurovision Song Contest. However, it did decide to broadcast the event and telerecorded the programme on closed circuit with an edited version being shown on BBC Television from 15.15-16.15 on Sunday 16th March 1958.

The Eurovision Song Contest 1958 was staged by Dutch broadcaster NTS (Nederlandse Televisie Stichting) who had won the previous contest, and this set a precedent that the winning country would have first option on staging the event the following year.

The contest was held in Hilversum, Netherlands on Wednesday 12th March 1958. An edited telerecording of the event was shown by BBC Television TV on Sunday 16th March 1958 from 15.15-16.15.

Peter Haigh provided the commentary for BBC Television.
